What it is

How Ute & Van Finance Works

Most tradies finance their work vehicle through the business with a chattel mortgage. The business owns the ute or van from day one, the vehicle secures the loan, and repayments come out of the business account.

You can usually roll the tray, canopy, racks, toolboxes and fit-out into the same loan, as long as they're part of the purchase.

What You Can Use It For

  • Dual cab and single cab utes
  • Vans and cab chassis
  • Trays, canopies, racks and toolboxes
  • A second vehicle for an apprentice or new hire
  • Trading in or refinancing your current ute

Who it suits

Is It Right for Your Business?

  • Sole traders, partnerships, companies and trusts with an ABN
  • Tradies who use the vehicle mainly for work
  • Newer ABNs and less than perfect credit are considered case by case. The lender makes the final decision.

  • Repayments come from the business, not your personal account
  • An optional balloon can bring the weekly cost down

Trade-offs

  • A balloon means a lump sum at the end
  • Older vehicles and private sales can narrow lender choice
  • Rates depend on your ABN age, credit and deposit

FAQs

Common Questions

I've only had my ABN a short time. Can I still get finance?

Possibly. Some lenders work with newer ABNs, especially if you've been in the same trade for a while. We'll be upfront about what's realistic.

Can I include the fit-out?

Usually, yes, when the tray, canopy or fit-out is part of the purchase. Tell us what you're adding and we'll check it with the lender.

Do I need a deposit?

Not always. A deposit or trade-in can help if your ABN is newer or your credit file has a few marks on it.

Can I buy from a private seller?

Yes, many lenders allow private sales. They'll usually want to confirm the vehicle and that there's no money owing on it.
